Recap: Netzimpedanz Conference 2024 – “Grids, Stability, and Reliability”

On September 5th, the conference “Grids, Stability, and Reliability – Industry Meets Research” took place, organized by the Interessenverband Netzimpedanz at the morEnergy premises in the Ingenieurwerk Hamburg. The goal was to discuss key challenges and solutions for the energy grids of the future. Financial support for the conference was provided by OPAL-RT EUROPE, 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, and morEnergy GmbH.

Shaping the Future of Energy Grids
The key takeaway from the presentations was that the increasing integration of renewable energies, e-mobility, and heat pumps poses immense challenges and requires significant investments from grid operators. Another central question was: how can we ensure grid stability in times of growing volatility? A highlight of the event was the presentation of the BMWK Roadmap for System Stability, which outlined concrete measures such as market-based procurement of reactive power and the introduction of technical standards for power converters. Technologies like STATCOM systems, which enhance the stability of urban grids through dynamic reactive power and the reduction of voltage harmonics, were also explored in depth.

Conclusion of the Conference: The Future of Grid Stability
The conference clearly demonstrated that these challenges can only be tackled through a combination of technological innovation, strategic planning, and close collaboration between research and industry. A key insight was that digitization and targeted expansion of grid infrastructure are indispensable.

A Big Thank You!
