SuSy – Sustainable DC Systems research project

The time has finally come: after almost two years of preparation, we are pleased to announce the start of our important research project SuSy – Sustainable DC-Systems on Ships, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

Led by the German Meyer shipyard for cruise ships, the research consortium from industry with Siemens Energy, Schneider Electric, Damen Shipyards, Lloyd Register and research TU Hamburg, DLR aims to significantly increase the energy efficiency and reduce emissions of future ships. The core of the project is the transformation from pure alternating current (AC) grids to hybrid grids with a high proportion of DC.

Our task in this project is to characterize electrical components and grid structures using our own stationary and mobile monitoring systems.

Thanks to DC distribution grids, fuel cells, batteries and renewable energy sources can be better integrated into the energy supply on ships.

It will certainly be three very innovative years with trustworthy project partners. We are very much looking forward to it!
